The Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services has an immediate opening for a Staff Nutritionist (RDN). The Nutrition Program provides meals and services for adults, 60 years and older. Meals are provided at congregate dining centers and by home delivery throughout Westchester County. Meals are available five or more days per week at approved nutrition sites and multi-purpose centers and to medically eligible homebound seniors who are unable to participate at congregate sites.
The successful candidate is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive food service program for senior citizens in Westchester County. This involves monitoring and assessing the delivery of services by subcontracting agencies and nutrition site managers to ensure conformance with standards established by the New York State and Westchester County Offices for the Aging, the New York State Department of Health, and provision (Title III Cl, C2, and WIN) of the Older Americans Act.
Additional Responsibilities Include but Not Limited to:
Provide nutrition counselling or medical nutrition therapy guiding seniors to making healthy choices based on their medical conditions.
Provide technical assistance and training to nutrition sites and caterers in all aspect of food service management and nutrition program standards including menu planning (Review, approve menus and complete nutrient analysis for recipes and menus), food purchasing contract and food preparation and storage. The meals are prepared locally, and the menus change seasonally.
Develop nutrition education and deliver educational presentations for congregate as well as homebound seniors receiving meals.
Requirements:
Must have current registration as a Dietician by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and maintain same while in the title.
A Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutrition Science, Foods and Nutrition or Institutional Food Management and 2 years’ experience as a public health nutritionist.
A Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Public Health Nutrition may be substituted for one year of the above stated experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid NY State Driver’s License.
This is a competitive class Civil Service title requiring examination.
